A-Z Bookish Survey

I saw this tag on The Bookavid and thought it would be great fun to take part in. Even if it has taken me months to complete it!

Author you've read the most books from:

According to Goodreads it's Veronica Roth at 4 books... BUT I've only been on Goodreads since February and I'm only marking books as read since then

Best sequel ever:

Umm... so many to choose from...

Currently reading:

The Heir (The Selection, #4)

Drink of choice while reading:

I don't really drink much when I'm reading - I might occasionally have some juice or water though. And I definitely wouldn't say no to wine either... if it was available and I didn't have to drive anywhere.

E-reader or physical book?

Physical book! I actually only have a tablet with the Kindle app and I only use it for ARCs. Mainly because (and it's the same for music, films etc) if I buy something I want to be able to physically hold it, not have it floating around in a cloud somewhere. I like to have physical proof of what I spend my money on. Just call me old fashioned.

Fictional character you would have actually dated in High School:

So hard, it usually changes depending on what I'm reading... maybe Four (Divergent), or Simon (Wallbanger), or Jonah (Your Voice is All I Hear)... I could on and on!

Glad you gave this book a chance:

Woman of the Dead
It's mystery/suspense/thriller not something I usually read but oh my god! I'm so glad I did!

Hidden gem book:
Voice of InnocenceDeceptive Cadence
 Both absolutely gorgeous books.

Important moment in your reading life:

When my teacher gave me her personal copies of a certain series. She created an obsessive book monster.

Just finished:

Rusty Nailed (Cocktail, #2)

Kinds of books you won't read:

I try to keep an open mind and will try anything once. But I don't tend to read an awful lot of non-fiction, but I'm wanting to.

Longest book you've read:

Off the top of my head, I think it would be book 5 in a certain series, 766 pages.

Major book hangover because of:

 Allegiant (Divergent, #3)
I couldn't pick up another book for days!

Number of bookcases you own:

1 full length and 1 half.

One book you have read multiple times:

The Princess Bride

Preferred place to read:

In bed, but I can read anywhere

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you've read:

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live." - think we all know where this quote comes from...

Reading regret:

Not reading more Classics.

Series you started and need to finish:

So many! Of the top of my head: House of Night, P.C. Cast; Cocktail, Alice Clayton; Sookie Stackhouse, Charlaine Harris; The Inheritance Cycle, Christopher Paolini.

Three of your all-time favourite books:

The Princess BrideWarm Bodies

Unapologetic fangirl for:

The Princess Bride, if you mention this book (or movie) in front of me prepare to be terrified by how excitable I will get!

Very excited for this release more than all the others:

The Queen B* Strikes Back (The Queen B*, #2)

Worst bookish habit:

Buying books when I have PLENTY to read at home!

X marks the spot (start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book):

On my read shelf:
Wallbanger (Cocktail, #1)

On my TBR shelf:
A Study in Scarlet (Sherlock Holmes, #1)

Your latest book purchase:

The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1)

Zzz-snatcher book (last book that kept you up way late):

Allegiant (Divergent, #3)

Feel free to take part and let me know if you do!

Author you’ve read the most books from:

Judy Blume (Want an easy way to figure this out if you have Goodreads and keep good track of your stuff? Go to your account, hit “my books”and on the left hand side under your shelves you will see “most read authors”)

Best Sequel Ever:

Though The Ever Night by Veronica Rossi. I LIKED UTNS but TTEN blew me away.

Currently Reading:

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (FINALLY..ok people??)

Drink of Choice While Reading:

Tea! I really like all sorts of green and white teas and always down for recommendations of new teas to try!

E-reader or Physical Book?

I’m definitely a physical book girl but love my Kindle for the gym, review copies and for vacation so I can have lots of options with me.

Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School:

Cricket from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I definitely went for the nice, kind-of-into-dorky-things boys in high school. Also I had a thing with MY boy next door that never blossomed.

Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:

Hidden Gem Book:

Important Moment in your Reading Life:

Discovering Goodreads. Without Goodreads I would have never started reading again. I was a huge reader but then fell off the map in high school/some of college. Goodreads led me to book blogs and here we are!

Just Finished:

Not A Drop To Drink by Mindy  McGinnis

Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:

I’m trying to get better about shutting myself off to some genres (you can help me!) without trying them but I’m certain I won’t ever read any erotica. It’s just not my thing. I don’t mind smutty but not super explicit.

Longest Book You’ve Read:

I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb (897 pages)
** easy way to find this out. Go to your Goodreads “read” list, don’t scroll down but where you are on the screen there will be this little tab on the bottom that lets you choose how you want to scroll or how many books you want display. There is also a sort option with a drop down and you can sort by page.

Major book hangover because of:

Number of Bookcases You Own:

4. Two are really tall and then the other two are smaller. I’m out of room so I have piles here PLUS I stored some books on bookshelves at my stepdad’s house.

One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:

The Giver by Lois Lowry — definitely the book I re-read the most ever. I don’t reread often but when I do it’s been just one re-read. The Giver I just kept re-reading over and over again as a kid.

Preferred Place To Read:

In the tub. It really is my favorite place to relax and read. Also, in bed!

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:

“Or maybe it’s not a miracle. Maybe this is just life. When you open yourself up to it. When you put yourself in the path of it. When you say yes.” — Just One Day by Gayle Forman. That book actually kind of changed my life and made me say YES to things I had been thinking about.

Reading Regret:

I regret not having read Harry Potter when it came out. I WANT TO BE A PART OF THAT CLUB WHO GREW UP WITH IT! You did see my secret project, yes? I was going to list a book I regretted reading but NOT reading this was a bigger regret.

Series You Started And Need To Finish(all books are out in series):

I have many but I’d say Jessica Darling series. SHOCKING I haven’t finished it considering how much I love it, huh? I’ve read the first three books but just can’t bear to finish it!!

Three of your All-Time Favorite Books:

The Book Thief by Markus Zusack, Just One Day by Gayle Forman, Pride & Prejudice

Unapologetic Fangirl For:

Trish Doller. Her debut, Something Like Normal, is pretty popular in the book blogosphere and one of my favorite contemporaries but Trish deserves so much more praise and I will shout it to everyone who will listen!!

Very Excited For This Release More Than All The Others:

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins. PLEASE GET IN MY HANDS, book!

Worst Bookish Habit:

Tricky! What I deem as my worst bookish habit or what you all would? haha. I already laid out my book crimes and you guys cringed so I’ll just go with what I deem it to be…overdue library books! ALWAYS. I can never get it there on time!

X Marks The Spot: Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book:

Your latest book purchase:

Crown of Embers by Rae Carson. I loved The Girl of Fire of Thorns and got book three for review and then I saw this one was on sale!

ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up WAY late):

The Program by Suzanne Young. I was going to put it down before bed but was like “what’s one more chapter?” and then uh oh…it’s 3am.
Ahh now I’m going to go put on some Dashboard Confessional and write my most emo post I can that is so perfectly pointed and my meaning is thinly veiled. Oh wait, I’m here…not actually
I’d love to see yours if you do it too — link back to me and then leave your link in the comments so I can come visit yours!

  • The Next Together by Lauren E. James!!!!!!!!
"Finding Audrey" is actually already out in English, but I'm still waiting for the German copy to be released by the end of july. I absolutely love Kinsella and can't wait.

Your latest book purchase: Linden Hills by Gloria Naylor.

Damn you, David Levithan. This is from Every Day. If I haven't tried to harass you into reading this, regard this as a gentle nudge.
Reading Regret: Trying Jenny Han novels. I'm too old for this.
Series You Started And Need To Finish

  • A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin (2/5)
  • Hourglass Trilogy by Myra McEntire (1/3)

Three of your All-Time Favorite Books:

  • Something Missing by Matthew Dicks
  • Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  • Life's That Way by Jim Beaver
Egmont 2011 Cover.
Unapologetic Fangirl For: Vampire Academy. Dear God, please hit me with a shovel. When will this obsession ever die?

I saw this tag on The Perpetual Page Turner and thought it could be fun. Make sure to check out the original post on Jamie's Blog

Author you’ve read the most books from:
According to Goodreads it's L.J. Smith and it's not a surprise to me.
I hardly stick with a series until the end or committ to an author for more than five or six books. Unless it's L.J. Smith. Whenever I'm sure that I've finally found the best book she's written I encounter another series by her that takes my by storm.  The Forbidden Game series is my latest obsession and I was baffled at how fast I read it. You should definitely check one of her books out. Guaranteed for a creepy read mixed with a swoon-worthy villain love interest.

Best Sequel Ever: Dreamless by Josephine Angelini really redeemed her for me. I absolutely hated the first, but the second one was pretty alright.
Currently Reading: The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
Drink of Choice While Reading: Tap water. Always stay hydrated, kids.
E-reader or Physical Book? Physical book. I don't own an e-reader.
Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School: Dimitri Belikov from the Vampire Academy series. Oops.
Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. Don't be intimidated by the size, seriously, it's really good. I wasn't a fan of the sequel A Clash of Kings though, but the first one is really a gem.
I'm going to marry the 2013 Ember Cover.
Hidden Gem Book: Starters by Lissa Price. So, so, sooo good.
Important Moment in your Reading Life: Probably every time I read the last page of a book. So satisfying.
Just Finished: Linden Hills by Gloria Naylor
Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:

I'm not a fan of religious books in general. Books about religious topics on the other hand are fine with me. I just don't like patronizing stuff.
Longest Book You’ve Read:
If you don't count three-in-one books, I guess it would be the first Game of Thrones book. I think it's about 850-ish pages.
Major book hangover because of: Great world building
Number of Bookcases You Own: 1 1/2
One Book You Have Read Multiple Times: The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot. I have no idea how often I read this, I think I already broke the spine in like 2007.
Preferred Place To Read: Couch, Bed, Balcony. Preferably in that order. I like to change places a lot.
Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:

“If there's one thing I've learned, it's this: We all want everything to be okay. We don't even wish so much for fantastic or marvelous or outstanding. We will happily settle for okay, because most of the time, okay is enough.”

Feature and Follow (29 May)

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of  Parajunkee’s View  and Alison of  Alison Can Read . Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs! I'm one of the featured blogs this week! Along with Amanda of  The Darling Bookworm . This week’s Question: How many books have you got on your TBR list? I recently had a bit of a cull of my TBR list so now it is sitting at 269. I'm trying my hardest to get it below 200 by the end of the year but I really don't see it happening. I'd currently be happy if I managed to get it below 225. However, I did recently have a look through my TBR on Goodreads and deleted a few books that I don't think I will actually ever read - I'm not even to sure how they got there anyway. Follow me via  Goodreads ,  Facebook ,  Bloglovin  and  Pinterest  and also via email to myexpandingbookshelf@gmail.com.  Feel free to leave a comment.

Top Ten Tuesday: Unread 2016 Releases

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by  The Broke and The Bookish . This week's topic is my ten 2016 releases I meant to read but didn't get to.
