January Wrap-Up (2023)

So I've had an okay reading month in January. I've been a bit slow at reading but I've at least been reading and getting through a few books.

Books Read

I read a total of 5 books, 1,840 pages and 8:42 hours of audiobooks.

Average rating

3.9 - Bit lower than I expected, but not bad.

Most Read Source

Owned - 3 of my books are owned, plus one book box book so technically I own that too. The was from the Audible so again technically owned.

Most Read Format

Physical - 4 of them were physical which makes sense as I'm still reading as many physicals as possible.

Most Read Genre

Fantasy - Pretty standard for me these days.

Most Read Age Range

Young Adult - This is different as I'm usually reading more Adult these days. Only two Adult books were read this month though.

Favourite read

I was mesmerised by this book. It was fantastically written - I couldn't find a single fault with the writing at all. The atmosphere was gripping and I was left gobsmacked by the plot twists.

Worst read

Whilst I did like The Rise of Nine and am enjoying the series as a whole, I'm not a fan of the writing style at all. It's very young and I think clearly aimed at young teen boys.

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I'd Love to Check in With

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by  The Broke and The Bookish .  This week's topic is the top ten characters you'd like to check in with.  I really struggled with this one, my brain just went blank and I couldn't really think of anyone besides pretty obvious choices.

Discussion: The Problem With My Local Library

I used to use my local library all the time when I was in school.  Source I even spent every lunchtime in my school's library. My friends and I were pupil librarians and we practically had the run of the whole library. And then, when I started University, the only library I had time for was the University library. And that wasn't an enjoyable experience. However, last summer I started going to my local library again. (I then had to stop again when I got my job.) And unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed.  Source The availability sucks. I can deal with books I want that are already out on loan. It's the complete lack of decent books the library has on its system that gets to me. All those months I went to the library last year and I never left with a book that was already on my TBR. I walked around that place looking at my Goodreads trying to find any book on that list. And I couldn't find any at all (except for the Classics). To be honest, I ...
